I originally wrote this song in 1998 for Orange Hat's Pufferfish CD and had envisioned it as a Beach Boys "Heroes and Villians"-style epic about life in my Fuzzy Pole Garden. For practical reasons, the Hat recorded a rocking little 3-minute streamlined version. It wasn't until 2007 that I owned a computer that could handle the insane arrangement I originally heard in my head. I managed to pile on 62 tracks of audio before it bogged down.
This version appeared on my Decompositions DVD in 2007.
Strap on your Mike Love and waltz into the purple cosmos...
lyrics
Down on the farm
I unpack my things
and quietly off-key
she sings
and the days are long and happy now
as squidhead plows the hay
over hills and up the ladders
SEE 5 STATES ON A CLEAR DAY
Out in the field
it all took shape
collard greens and watermelons
and signs pointing to Pompeii
and the deer defied the scarecrow
and the pigs are on a pole
Hester's feet are blistered and blue
AND GOD BLESS THIS FUZZY POLE
squidhead farmplow
Spring turns into Summer
day turns into night
horses in the fields
planes float through the sky
